The people building frontier AI spent the week asking everyone to slow down — while Apple unfolded a phone and Google made European search worse on purpose.
Tech
- Anthropic's September threat report finds attackers running Claude as the execution layer inside agent frameworks rather than as a text generator, and accuses several labs of harvesting Claude output through fraudulent accounts to train their own models.
- Apple finally unfolded the iPhone Duo: 7.6-inch inner display, Touch ID back in the side button, $1,999, shipping October 23.
Design
- Apple's answer to the crease is material science, not software — the nano-texture inner display makes the fold hard to spot at most angles.
- Figma quietly fixed a design-system annoyance: opacity can now be aliased on a colour variable without detaching it from the library. The same release adds enterprise data residency in Japan — where design files live is now a procurement question.
Business
- Google rewrote European search results to satisfy the DMA, and said out loud that the change degrades the experience for Europeans.
- AI stocks slid on Monday after three of the loudest voices in the industry agreed the pace is dangerous. Cybersecurity names went the other way.
The Apps take
Read the threat report next to the slowdown essays and a pattern shows up. Almost nothing that went wrong this year was a model problem. The interesting failures were orchestration failures: agents wired into frameworks, given credentials, and pointed at systems nobody mapped first. That is the same reason most agent projects stall in production — not model choice, but the integration surface nobody owns. If your agent roadmap is a list of models you are evaluating, you are evaluating the wrong layer. The hard part was never which brain. It was everything the brain is plugged into.
